Idaho asks for no national exam at all. Plenty of technicians here still earn certification voluntarily — a national credential strengthens job applications and moves with you if you relocate to a stricter state.
What the Board and State Law Actually Say
Major 2025 change: House Bill 200 (2025) eliminated the Board's administrative rules (IDAPA 24.36.01) by moving them into the Idaho Pharmacy Act (Idaho Code tit. 54, ch. 17). Per the Board's official June 2025 newsletter, HB 200 eliminated the separate certified pharmacy technician (CPhT) registration and removed age requirements for licensure (Idaho Code 54-1704), and replaced fixed CE requirements with a standard-of-care approach. The former rule-based minimum age (16) and high-school education requirement no longer exist as administrative rules; whether the statute now imposes any age or education prerequisite could not be confirmed from a primary source, so check with the Board before assuming none apply. No CE requirement for technicians appears on the Board's pages. The Board's license verification portal was live as of our last review.
